Music Mixing Software

 Music Mixing Software
In this day and age, it's not enough that you know how to play a music instrument or read notes. To shine in the music scene, you need more than talent-you need to be updated on new music technology. You should know the ins and outs of music mixing software to get an edge in the music business.
Get Familiar with Your Music Mixing Software
Figuring out how music making software functions is not as complicated as most people assume. In fact, many kids these days are capable of using it to make their own music mixes for parties or personal entertainment. If they can do it, so can you! The key is locating the music mixing software that suits you.
This kind of software works like an editing program. But this time you will cut and paste assorted bits of digital music to form entirely new music. What's more is you can extract audio from your favorite tracks then turn them into brief loops you could put over another song. Also, you can shuffle loops within a song to add flavor to an old track.
Whether you are a singer, composer, DJ or a music producer, you surely know that a vital aspect of mixing songs is discovering the right beat and speed for the pieces to blend well together. Luckily for today's music artists, music mixing software can instantly determine the optimal combination for songs you would like to combine.
With this program, you will able to use, for example, the bass line and beats of one song and overlap it with lyrics of a different track. All this while still keeping the quality of both tracks and without pitch distortion.
Music making programs differ in various ways, but the actual procedure for mixing beats and sounds remains virtually the same for every program. To begin with, you need to load the files you want to mix into different locations. Regulate the mixing setting for every part to zero. A zero setting lets you compose your mix with no sounds at first and listen to the pieces separately. It will then be easier for you to mix and stay aware of and in control of the beats you are creating.
Next, choose a main track. You can adjust the volume to any level you like. However, keep in mind that something too loud can drown the other elements in your mix. This would defeat your purpose for mixing music in the first place! You can vary the setting of each element you include in your mix. When all the beats and sounds mesh well, that means you are doing a great job!
If one of the elements won't work, don't worry! These music mixing programs let you go back and adjust or change whatever needs editing. Finally, when you are satisfied with what you have made, put it aside for a while. Give your ears time to rest so the next time you listen to your newly created track, it will be easier to detect elements that need improvement.
Music mixing software programs can assure you that each of your outputs will be polished, refreshing and most importantly, reflective of your music style. If you are an aspiring artist, consider this your best friend!

Could You Live The Life Of A DJ

Could You Live The Life Of A DJ

So you love music and you want to be a DJ. Well before
taking the plunge there are some things you need to
know about how to become a DJ.
Since there is no such thing as a DJ school to teach
you the steps one of the first things you need to know
is that you need to be original and if possible new in
your talent and technique. Talk to other DJ's if you can
and find out how they broke into the business and get
some tips from them. See if they will take you on as an
apprentice so that you can learn.
A person that aspires to be a disk jockey needs to have
a lot a charisma because other than the music a really
good DJ that has appeal is what draws the crowds. So
develop a character personality that attracts crowds.
You need to know when to tune it down as well so that
you do not overpower and lose that attention.
As a DJ you have to be knowledgeable in all genre of
music, just knowing a few hit songs here and there won't
cut it. So you need to make sure to brush up on your musical
intellect by learning about all types of music. The way to
learn the music it is to listen to it...even if it is not
what you personally enjoy, a DJ has to know and have a
lot of music.
Now, you need to realize that being knowledgeable in all
music doesn't mean that you will play all music. You
will need to develop your own style as well. You need
to work on a certain niche of music lovers and be able
to entertain with the right music, whether it be rock, rap,
soul or house music.
You need to have good quality music, so if you are downloading
it from the Internet, make sure that you are using legal sites
to get it from so that you are getting the best quality.
Plan on either renting or possibly borrowing the equipment that
you will need until you are comfortable with being a DJ. The
last thing you want to do is spend a lot of money on expensive
equipment and then find you don't enjoy it as much as you thought you would.
Then ask some friends if you can DJ a party of two for them
for free so you can get your feet wet and see how the crowd
reacts.
An important key you need to remember is that you should
base the music you play on the crowd that you are entertaining.
In other words, don't play rap for a group of elderly
people and don't place bluegrass for a bunch of rockers or rappers.
Learning how to DJ can be a lot hard work as well as fun.
So get out there and make your way in the world of music
and don't forget to have fun while you're at it.
Top DJs don't just play the music they become the dance floor, when they move the crowd moves few other professions in the world can make you feel that buzz...do you want it... get the help you need at [http://www.startdjing.com]

DJ Styles to Avoid

DJ Styles to Avoid

Mobile DJ's are often organic; they learn by doing and copying. Many don't have degrees in mass-com or haven't even been to a DJ school. Sometimes they pick up techniques that are horrendous, yet they simply don't know better. If you find yourself in one of these categories, don't worry... just fix it, move on, and watch your reputation, referrals and income skyrocket.
The Puker
Hopefully you have heard of this one before. If not, you are either not a DJ, or you're a bad one. Being a puker is similar to a guy with a comb over. He thinks he's got everyone fooled, yet everyone is laughing at him behind his back and no one wants to be the one to tell him that he looks ridiculous.
A puker is someone who uses that fake DJ voice that people do when they are trying to imitate a DJ. It sounds like they are talking with half a yawn, while moving there inflections all over the place. It sort of sounds like a cross between Bill Clinton and Harry Carey. The term "puker" comes from the sound that someone would make if they were vomiting and talking at the same time. (Don't try it!)
While it's somewhat difficult to accurately describe puking, it's not hard to recognize. It used to be common with radio DJs in the 50's through the 70's. I think it has finally been effectively eliminated in even the smallest of markets. The only time you hear it now is at carnivals, by the carnies who operate the rides and have access to a microphone...and mobile DJs.
If you still don't know what the sound is, please call your local radio station and ask to talk to one of the DJs. Tell him you want to know what is meant by "puking." He'll gladly do an impersonation for you.
To know if you are doing this or any other bad DJ technique, you should record yourself at one of your live gigs. Give yourself an honest critique, and then fix it!
The Yucker
A "Yucker" is similar to a puker, but simply talks like he's about ready to crack up laughing at any minute, except he never does. The best example of this is any comedian doing an impression of Bill Clinton. Or, just listen to Bill himself to get the idea.
The Growler
It's easy to figure this one out. It's ok to growl once in a while for emphasis... like maybe twice a night. Otherwise, don't growl.
The mumbler.
Usually a mumbler has a problem with articulation. He's not opening his mouth quite enough to make his speech clear. While it's not good technique to sound like a high school English teacher, you still need to be understandable. One way to clean up your articulation is to practice tongue twisters. Another is to talk with a moderate smile. Emphasis on the word MODERATE. If you overdo it, you run the risk of becoming...
The Smiler
Somewhere along the way someone decided that DJs should smile, because it makes them sound happy. This technique is still going strong and the pro-smile gang will practically stone you if you even suggest that they back off on smiling. While a very moderate smile is ok to help you keep from sounding like a mumbler, a huge smile sounds about as sincere as a used car salesman and screams "phony."
The yeller
I know I said five, but this one deserves a place all it's own. There is no need to yell. Go ahead and project your voice, but remember, this isn't community theatre. The microphone can pick you up just fine. If you talk at a slightly louder volume than moderate and don't puke, yuck, smile, growl or mumble, chances are you sound pretty good.
The real DJ education that you should derive from all of this: keep it natural. Keep the energy up, but not too up. Speak clearly, but don't over enunciate. Practice at home, so when you get to the gig, you've got it down.

- The school you choose should have complete equipment - from turntables to speakers. The school should be properly equipped so that you can properly train.
- Becoming a DJ would entail performing in clubs and various events, look for a DJ school that would expose you to these events even while you are still training. Exposure is the best way to get a successful career.
- Good DJ schools not only train their students to become DJs, they also give them self-confidence classes. Keep in mind that, as a DJ, you will be in front of crowds all the time so you should have the confidence and energy to face people. Choose a school that can properly mould and train your skills as a DJ.
There a lot of institutions that can teach you to become a DJ, however, there are not that many that can teach you how to succeed in this career. A good DJ school should have resident DJs who are equipped with the experience and skills to teach novice DJs to succeed in the industry.
Apart from DJ schools, there are also less structured DJ lessons available. Often times, industry experts retire from the scene, or wish to share their knowledge with others, and therefore offer one on one DJ lessons with selected canditates. These sorts of lessons can be more expensive, but obviously offer a much more detailed learning experience.
Whichever route you decide to go, make sure that you're comfortable with the institution or person, and try to get a trial or demo period to test out the waters.

How to Make Professional Rap Beats in FL Studio in 4 Steps

How to Make Professional Rap Beats in FL Studio in 4 Steps

There are many factors that need to be taken into account if you wish to be successful at creating professional, industry standard beats in FL Studio. In this article I will touch on the key factors that you will need to master and this is what separates the pros from the amateurs when producing hot rap beats.
Where to Start
Some people have a preference in what instrument they first want to layout when producing beats in FL Studio. Some prefer the melody, some prefer the bass line and some prefer the drums. No answer to this is wrong or right, and it is mostly a matter of opinion, but for starters I will recommend laying out a good drum pattern first.
Before we get started, set your BPM (beats per minute) to something between 85 and 95.
Creating the Drum Pattern
First, search through your sounds for a nice, hard-hitting kick sample. In the example that we're going to create, you'll want to try to find a kick sound that hits hard but does not contain a lot of low-end sub bass (this will make it easier to mix with the bass later). Once you have found a good drum kick sound, fill in the steps on the step sequencer of where you would like the kick to be heard. Now, right-click on the sound in the step sequencer and select "Send to piano roll." This will put your drum kick pattern in the piano roll where you will want to adjust your velocity. Velocity is what gives the sound a human feel and not so robotic. Technically, velocity is to adjust how hard something is hit, or how hard a string is plucked, a piano key is pressed, etc. Play with this a little bit until your drum kick pattern starts to sound more human and natural.
Next, find a hi-hat sound that you like and again, click the steps where you want the hi-hat to be. Generally, every other note on the step sequencer is a good place to start. Now, do the same thing that you did with the kick sound and send the channel to the piano roll and adjust the velocity. This is even more important on the hi-hat than it is with the kick.
Now for the snare drum(s). I usually like to layer a few together to get the sound just right. I usually like a tight and hard-hitting sound, so I might mix a clap sound with a rim shot and then take 2 different traditional snare hits and turn the level down a little bit on those and then pan one to the right and one to the left at about 35%. For starters, you'll want to put your snare drum on every 4th step in the step sequencer.
Now, you can add more personal touch if you want using the same techniques already mentioned. Feel free to throw in a cowbell, tambourine, cymbal, etc.
Creating the Bass Line
In most hip hop, a low bass sound is used so really all it provides is power and thump and possibly a catchy tune that helps to "glue" the drum sounds together with the rest of the instruments. Choose a low bass sound that will give a good rumble when being bumped, and if there is too much high-end frequency to the sound then you can always cut it out with proper EQ or low-pass filter. I usually like to have the bass frequency set at 50 to 75hz and have the kick set at about 85 to 90 hz. You can also do this in reverse (have the kick lower frequency than the bass). The most important thing is that they don't both occupy the SAME frequency space. This is where most amateur beat makers struggle. It can take a lot of practice to mix the drum kick and the bass line together so that they don't sound weird or cause distortion when they're on top of each other. This will probably be the last thing that you master when learning to make beats because it can take precise EQ and compression to make it sound crisp and professional.
When writing the bass melody, start out simple. Choose a note scale that you want to use and stay within that scale. If you don't know music theory, start out by researching scales and pick one at random. Next, put a blank sound (use a sampler channel, or just turn the volume all the way down on the sound) in your step sequencer in fruity loops. Right click it and open the piano roll. Fill in all the notes in that scale, in every octave, and drag the edge of them so that they show up for the whole duration of the full pattern. Now, open the piano roll for your bass and click the little piano icon in the top left corner of the window. Select view > Ghost Channels. Now every note in the scale will be highlighted gray and you know to stay in these notes while writing your melody. This is a tip you really don't want to ignore because it can help you a lot!
Writing the Main Melody
First, choose your instrument. Let's pick something simple like a piano. Write a melody that goes along with the bass line. Sometimes you can copy your same bass line but then add more notes in between (remember I said to keep your bass line simple). If you have researched some music theory, you should use some chords here and there and use some type of chord progression. Remember to stay in the scale and always view Ghost Channels to make sure you're in the scale in you're unsure. If you want to stay simple you can just have the piano playing for the melody, but feel free to select a couple other complimentary instruments and add some accents here and there. Sometimes I like to use something like a violin just to emphasize certain notes or phrases in the melody.
Writing the Hook
The hook is where you can really go wild because it is the most climactic part of the song. You still want to stay in the correct scale of course, but you can add lots of strings and other instruments. You should either elaborate on the normal verse melody and make it more complex or you should write a totally new melody in the same scale. Remember to try to picture it with vocals on top of it and try to add things that will compliment a finished product / song.

Traktor Kontrol S4 Review - Digital DJ Equipment

Traktor Kontrol S4 Review - Digital DJ Equipment

I cut through the hype to show you what's really important. For me, this boils down to user experience and sound quality. These are what sets good controllers apart from average ones.
I prefer seeing the production model tested by real pro DJs first before giving an opinion.
The Traktor Kontrol S4 by Native Instruments is similar in that it's also a fully integrated hardware and DJ software solution.
It's a great size for a DJ controller. Not too big to transport easily (unlike the Numark NS7) and big enough to look cool.
It also appears to be scalable enough for both beginner and pro DJs to use with confidence.
What advantage for you? Stability my friend. The last thing you want is for your DJ mixing software to get stuck in a set and embarrass you, leaving you red faced and having to reboot everything. With everyone laughing and pointing at you.
Traktor Kontrol S4 review - 4 decks to mix with & 4 channel mixer
Many of you won't mix using 4 decks to start with, but after a while you'll start to see why having 4 different audio sources can be interesting. Using 4 decks isn't for a casual DJ who plays out once a month and rarely practices. It's for the guys and girls who want to add some creativity, splice new sounds into their mixes, mix 3 or 4 tunes together (yes people can do it) and basically let rip on the sounds.
I do like their 4 channel mixer function. That is Kool & the Gang! Good, sturdy knobs and buttons give you close control.
Having 4 audio sources also is great for when a new DJ has to hit the decks running with no dip in the beat.
Imagine you play for 1 hour, everbody's dancing, then another DJ comes on, or your buddy. You have to keep them on the floor!
He or she can seamlessly plug their audio source into the Traktor Kontrol S4 and play away without either of you sweating!
Just the dancefloor will sweat. You'll head off and get a nice cold beer of course, happy with your set.

Traktor Kontrol S4 review - the verdict
Pros This controller is great. For me, it's the fact that the DJ will enjoy him or herself and not get stressed and lost with the controls.
Having the 4 channel mixer is a massive plus.
I do think having a 24 bit sound card is a must and you should only be considering digital gear which has at least that.
It also looks extremely cool.
Cons
No scratching
I think that if you're a turntablists, you should consider using Serato as Traktor seem to be less adapted for turntablism.
Price isn't for everybody
The price is not low, but gets you good, high end material with reliable software that'll last you for the next 5 years at least, and probably more.
Have a look at it, see the user reviews and decide for yourself if it's really for you.

Buy DJ Equipment: Selecting DJ Equipment

Buy DJ Equipment: Selecting DJ Equipment

Having your own club, playing your own kind of songs and mixing your own music is what DJs dream of! What great idea to purchase DJ equipment of your own so you can start creating great music and practice for your performance. There are great new disk jockey equipment in specialty shops or online but if you are just starting out with a limited budget then it is better to start with second hand equipment first. When you buy DJ equipment, you must know how to distinguish quality and durability especially if you are out looking for deals in a second hand shop.
Buy DJ equipment second hand
There is nothing wrong about buying second hand stuff; some great condition disk jockey hardware can be found in clearance sales, garage sales and flea markets if you look hard enough. It is important though that you know how to appraise equipment and know how to test them out before you purchase.
When buying major second hand disk jockey equipment like turntables and mixers, ask the owner to test them out; check out the tonearm, the stylus (extra ones maybe great!) the table itself and check out if the belt drive works fine. Ask for an actual demo and try doing some scratching on your own. Chances are if there are turntables for sale, there could be a mixer nearby. There may also be tables and mixers in one which could make your hunt easier. Mixers must be checked for the number of outputs it has, room and booth controls, capabilities for MIDI and latest input capabilities would be great. It may be difficult to sample a mixer out for any problems but ask for any repairs done and if there are warranties left from the manufacturer.
When you buy DJ equipment and accessories second hand it would also be best to be particular about brands. Before you go bargain hunting be familiar with the great brands of headphones, controllers CD or MP3 players online. Great brands mean great sound quality and better performance thus even if it is second hand, they would still work great.
Buy DJ equipment brand new
It would be a dream to use all high quality and brand new DJ hardware. Whether you buy these online or you purchase them from the store it is still best to do your research for the best brands. Look for these on disk jockey equipment review sites and also in product comparison sites.
As you shop for equipment remember to find great manufacturer's warranty on service and parts. Ask for possible parts ordering online just in case you need to replace a broken one. Be particular too for brands that have online support or 24 hour customer support just in case you need technical help for your equipment.
Finally, when you buy DJ equipment, always ask how to care or maintain these pieces of equipment. New or second hand, DJ hardware may last for a long time when maintained in the proper way. You can also get great information on how to maintain DJ equipment online.
If you want to buy DJ equipments, then you should read the honest reviews on all popular DJ equipments at buy DJ equipment for your own benefits.

How to Price Your DJ Services

How to Price Your DJ Services

As professional mobile disc jockeys we are also Emcee's, Interactive Party Hosts, Event Coordinators, Music Programmers and Audio and Lighting Technicians. What's more, we can teach participation dances, and host contests and games. Do we warrant a premium fee? You bet we do. Just remember to always be worth your asking fee, and always give your customers even more than you have promised.
1. Set your primary fee -
You need to have a set base fee on which to operate so that you have a good starting point for all events.
$100-$300 is the average hourly rate in the industry. Check out the competition in your market and decide what you think is a good starting point for your level of service.
2. Determine all the "extras"
The price of your service should vary depending on the type of occasion, the time of year, the location of the event, whether it's a day or night event.
In addition, you can add things to your service that provide that extra level of service such as lighting effects, dancers, party props, Karaoke, etc... Each of these needs to have a set fee so that it's easy to determine the total once you add it to your primary fee.
3. Set your minimum hours
It's very wise to base your prices on a three-hour minimum. Even if the event is only an hour long, you still have to setup and break down. Make sure this is accounted for.
4. Determine your Special Event Rate
Events such as weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and some corporate events are typically booked at a higher rate than other types of events. You will have dual responsibility of being both the DJ and emcee, and should be compensated.
5. Set any discounts
Sometimes a good incentive for people to hire your DJ service is to offer them a discount. Build this consideration into your pricing structure and consider offering discounts to non-profit organizations, customers willing to prepay and corporate clients who book your services several times a year.
6. Set overtime rates
Clients will often ask you to extend your services past the original end time. Make sure you have a rate set so that you can offer to do so immediately. Typically you would charge 50% of the hourly rate you have quoted for each thirty minutes of overtime you play.

Starting a Mobile DJ Business From Scratch

Starting a Mobile DJ Business From Scratch

You have probably seen a mobile DJ before at some point. Maybe you were at a wedding or a fraternity party, and there was a fun-loving guy or girl picking the tunes and blasting them through big speakers. How does that business work? What goes into such a fun business? This article will show you the simple elements of a small DJ business.
First, you must realize that it is a people business. The DJ makes the entire company. He or she will be the face of the business, and will make the sale with new clients. Learn to talk to people about your business and let them know about your DJ services. Even if you are standing in line at the grocery store, you can be promoting your services and potentially winning a new client.
Equipment is another big part of the DJ business. A sound mixer, speakers, microphones, cables, CD players, iPods, laptop computers, etc. Those are some of the pieces of equipment a DJ uses to perform his job. You can learn a lot about equipment, but knowing the basics is enough to get started. Look through a music website and get an idea of what the equipment looks like, what it does, and what it costs.
Lights could fall under equipment, but I like to consider them separately. Not all DJs have a light show. A lot of weddings will not require any lights, so the DJ doesn't bring any along. But parties and school dances will enjoy having a great light show to set the mood. Lights can include can lights with colored gels, lasers, and various other lighting effects. The possibilities are endless, and I encourage you to look around at your options.
Finally, the music is the big key to your DJ business. You should have an extensive music library and knowledge of music from all eras - not just new songs! Oldies and hits from 15 years ago are often very popular, and you should be familiar with them all. Building a music library will be a constant process in your business, but you must keep up to date and always add new songs.
Those are the basic components of a simple DJ business. The subtle complexities come into play when you consider marketing your services, working with customers, and building customer loyalty. Those are the topics of a later article.

5 Important Questions on Improving Your Mobile DJ Business

5 Important Questions on Improving Your Mobile DJ Business

Do you own a Mobile DJ business? Are you thinking of starting one? Are you looking for more clients? What help do you need? Here is a quick set of five questions to ask yourself before continuing along the path as a Mobile DJ.
1. Do I really love of being a mobile DJ?
What do you really want? What makes you truly happy? Do you really want to be a mobile dj business owner? If your answer is yes, the next step is to ask if you really have a PASSION for doing what you do? What drives you to do what you do? Is it the crowd, the music? The unforgettable experience that you provide? Identify exactly what it is that makes you passionate about your job.
2. What needs to change?
Are you familiar with the 80/20 rule? It states that 80% of our results come from 20% of our efforts. What is working in your business? What is NOT working in your business. Change or eliminate your marketing and business efforts that are not bringing you in money and focus more time and energy on the things that are.
3. Am I happy today with what my DJ business provides me?
If you are not sufficient with what your DJ business can generate, then it's not the end of the world. You can decide to promote more and learn more things and explore something new to make improvements. Think of a service that you have not yet offered. Get CREATIVE.
4. What motivates or inspires me?
There are lot things that makes people happy but remember what does motivates, could be sometimes hard to pinpoint. Believe it or not, but for most people, MONEY is not a motivator. It may be the things that money brings us, but money along is usually not a motivator. Identifying the things in your business that motivate you will help your business grow more. Motivators are always the reason why we stick to do and have the things we desire. Be motivated, think not just of the money you can earn but think of people you will effect with your business. For me, just hearing the positive feedback from a satisfied customer is enough.
5. Am I comfortable with what am I doing?
When promoting and offering new services of your mobile DJ business, asking yourself this question can help you decide if it could be effective or not. What about handing out your business card? Does it make sense or do you feel uncomfortable with the content and the templates? If so, you can easily find customizable and FREE to download business cards on the web.

How to Start a Mobile DJ Business

How to Start a Mobile DJ Business

I have a friend who is a professional DJ in his spare time. He makes great money doing it, and I have often asked him about his business. It turns out, the mobile entertainment industry is much like any other industry. You have customers who want your service, pay for it, and you deliver it. This article will lay out the fundamentals of starting your own mobile DJ business.
Get your equipment together. I cannot cover all the specific equipment choices you need to make. This article is too short for that detailed conversation. But make sure you have a decent sound mixer, great sounding speakers, and enough power to play the music loudly. Some events are larger than others, so you will need power to cover a small or large event accordingly. Lights are also another consideration. Get together a basic light package, including at least four can lights with colored gels. These will be enough to light up a small dance floor and set the party mood for everyone.
Your music is vital. Develop a large music library with songs from all time periods and genres. Make sure you study the music, learn how to move from song to song, and how to set a certain mood on the dance floor. At a wedding, you may need to include slow dances for the bride and groom, and also some fast-paced dancing for the wedding party. You might even need to include the Chicken Dance! Learn your music and grow your library constantly.
Now you have the goods, but you need some clients to offer your services to. Finding clients is difficult if you don't know how to do it. Here are a few tips. Talk about your business everywhere. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. Tell everybody about your DJ business. Eventually, somebody will pass the word along to a friend that needs a DJ. People are always getting married, and they need music for the reception. Create a nice looking business card to pass out. Also have a decent website put together to showcase your business for potential clients. It's all about promoting your business in any way possible.
I hope this article has convinced you that the DJ business is not very complicated. Like many business startups, it will take a little hard work and determination. But the payoff is incredible. My friend loves his DJ company. I know you will, too.

Branding Your DJ Business With a Custom Logo Design

Branding Your DJ Business With a Custom Logo Design

The role of disc jockey (or DJ) is one that is rapidly expanding, and many folks are making great careers with a disc jockey business. One thing that all DJ businesses have in common is the use of a great logo that can help to make their business more easily recognizable and stay competitive with the increasing number of similar businesses popping up around the country. A carefully planned and instrumented logo can give you the type of recognition that you are looking for that can allow you to find the most success in the business, and to help you find and retain clients and customers. A great logo for your business will exude a type of professionalism that you must have to become a staple in the DJ industry.
Your Custom Logo Design
Your logo should be well thought out and designed to give your DJ business the attention that it needs for success. Many DJ's will incorporate some aspect of the music industry into their logo design. For example, perhaps a microphone, a record or CD, or a stereo - these are all good symbols to incorporate into your logo design. You should also choose colors that are likely to draw attention to your logo, such as vibrant orange and bright red. In other instances, you might choose to use only text in the design of your logo, just straight text or the distorted text that seems to be more of an image than a letter. Be sure that any text that is incorporated into your logo design is highly readable and can be read by those with even less than perfect vision. Always use bold print for the text on your logo.
DJ Logo Design Suitable for Multiple Marketing Materials
As a general rule of thumb, your logo design should be appropriate for all types of marketing materials and marketing medium. You should be able to use the logo on items as small as a business card or magnet, or on posters, flyers, print ads or other materials as you see fit. Will your logo design look great on a tee shirt? Marketing Your Mobile DJ Business With Zero Budget

Marketing Your Mobile DJ Business With Zero Budget

You have a mobile DJ business but no budget for advertising? That's no problem. Most DJs don't put aside hundreds and thousands of dollars for advertising costs. They rely on word of mouth marketing. But there are some ways to stimulate even more word of mouth, and they come at an easy price - Free.
Are you using social media to market your DJ services? If not, you are behind the times! Hop on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and other sites right away. Sign up, create your profile, and join the conversation that's happening on these sites. Don't blast people with in-your-face marketing messages. That's not the point of these websites. Instead, chat it up with people in your city. Treat it like a big cocktail party on the Internet. Make sure you include links to your DJ website on all your profiles. Also, be sure to mention what you are working on. For instance, "Hey I'm DJing a wedding today. Wish me luck!" Or even better, "Congrats to Karen and John on their wedding! I'll be DJing the reception tonight."
Once you have spread the word on a few websites, you can move on to other methods. My favorite and most successful method is paying referral commissions. What does that mean? Well, let's say Fred has hired you to DJ his daughters birthday bash. After a successful gig, Fred recommended your services to his neighbor, Bill. When Bill hires you for his high school reunion, you can give Fred a commission - maybe just $25.
Why would you do that? Can you even afford to pay people for this? Of course you can. You aren't paying anybody to spread the word until they have brought you a paying client. Then you just take a bit of the new profits, and give your referrer a nice commission.
This kind of system will encourage your clients to become a sales army for your business. It's extremely powerful, and you will really see results if you start using this method. I hope this little tip will boost your DJ business income. You can thank me with a nice commission - just kidding!
The DJ business is exciting, profitable, and it's extremely easy to get started. For the one-stop crash course on the mobile DJ business check out Mobile DJ Profits.

The Wedding DJ Hire Techniques

The Wedding DJ Hire Techniques

Any wedding is incomplete without music. Music will set the tone for your grand celebrations, and will make it an event to remember. Sometimes, couples tend to ignore the importance of spending time to hire a perfect wedding DJ. It is important that the DJ you select should suit your wedding plans. What are the wedding DJ hire techniques?
Most wedding DJs are selected by references. Ask your friends, your family, and your co-workers. Check out the recommendations of major wedding organizers. Talk to a few newlywed couples in your area, or check out the local yellow pages or search online. All you need right now is a list of names to choose from.
Once you have made a shortlist of probable DJs, try to see their performances either live or on video. You could obtain videos online or from the companies these DJs belong to. Some DJs work on any event; there are others who specialize in weddings alone. Go for the latter.
Finally, talk to the wedding DJs personally. Clarify your doubts and make sure that you listen to his requirements too. Find out his experience, his references, and also discuss the fees and contract if any. Make sure he can take requests from the audience. The audience will love it when the DJ plays their favorite songs.
The DJ should be able to provide a wide selection of music from a range of genres to satisfy people of all groups and ages. You do not want to be restricted to a few songs from only a particular genre on the big day.
Once you have made your choice, you might need to do some partial payment. There are a few other things that you will have to do from your side. Make sure that the venue has adequate facilities that the DJ needs. Also inform the DJ if you want him to be the Master of the Ceremony. Elaborate him about your wedding protocol. Discuss with him the theme of your wedding and instruct him on the correct attire for the occasion. You do not want a DJ to turn up dressed in hip hop attire for your formal wedding. Make sure that he is flexible with timings. Wedding programs rarely take place on time. Your DJ should be able to accommodate at least a 15 to 30 minute delay.
Finally, make sure that you do the booking in advance and that the contract mentions the specific DJ of your choice. Your wedding will then be an event that everyone remembers for a long time.

DJ Mixing Tips - 5 Secret DJ Mixing Tips & Rules For The Beginner

DJ Mixing Tips - 5 Secret DJ Mixing Tips & Rules For The Beginner

As a DJ, one of the basic fundamentals of performing is knowing how to mix music. Keeping
that smooth flow, rhythm and energy on the dance floor is essential to a Dj and their
performance in front of their crowd! In this article we will mention 5 secrets of Dj mixing
tips that any beginner needs to know in order to become successful.
Beat mixing has become easier than it used to be because most of todays dance music tracks
have lengthy introductions to a song and also long outro ductions to a song. With this in
mind, it has also become easier for for newcomers to come into the scene and get involved
because Dj equipment is as expensive as it used to be!
Here are some of the Dj mixing tips you need to know -
1. Almost all dance tracks have an intro where you can mix in the music and a break or outro
where you can mix out of a track. Commonly, the outro area on a dance track is often the
final opportunity to mix out of the song. You can also mix out of a dance track where there
is a breakdown in the record!
2. When listening to dance music and its structure, make sure that you listen to the drum
beat of the song. This is normally a 4/4 structure. Eg. 1,2,3,4 - 2,2,3,4 - 3,2,3,4 - 4,2,3,4
Counting the beats will help you understand where you need to place your mix with the other
record you wish to mix into.
3. So now, as you listen to the tune that is being played (song one) on the output (dance
floor) you need to cue the song that you want to beat match through your headphones on the
other turntable or cd. When tune 1 comes towards its outro section, you then need to start
the second tune on its first beat in which case this is the intro of the second tune. This is
where you start to beat match the to songs. As you match the drum beats of the two songs keep
your hand on the pitch of the tune that you are trying to introduce. Adjusting the pitch will
help you speed up or slow down the tune you are trying to introduce!
4. As one hand adjusts the speed of the incoming song, the other hand needs to be to be
adjusting the volume of the mixer and gradually sliding the cross fader from tune one to the
other. What happens when you do this is that song one decreases in volume and song two
increases in volume Thus completing the change over from one track to the other.
5. One of the most important things for a DJ to understand when in the mix, is to make sure
that he/she always keeps their hand on the pitch when adjusting a mix. Some Dj's don't realize
this, but touching the vinyl may create a swoosh sound that can disturb the mix and make it
sound like its not running smooth! So avoid touching the vinyl or platter when you are
adjusting the speed on a live mix!
These are the DJ mixing tips exposed. I hope they are some sort of use to you! Learn and
understand them as best you can and they will help you become better at mixing your music!
