Pardon the 15 minute length, but here's an introduction to a proof of concept synth I'm tinkering with. It was inspired by the "additive heaven" synth included in Max for Live. I left out a LOT of features that would make it a real synth so that the flow is easier to follow. I'll have to clean it up and break this tutorial down into more bite sized chunks. Hopefully this tutorial can inspire more experiments by others though! |

Watch in HD! I couldn't pass up educational pricing on Logic Studio, so I found a way to use Logic's soft synths inside of Ableton Live. The virtual MIDI ports in OS X provide MIDI communication, and Cycling 74's Soundflower utility provides the way to route audio between Mainstage and Live (since they don't like to play together with rewire). I aggregated all my audio devices into one so that I could use my microphone and soundflower at the same time. You don't have to get that fancy if you just want to route audio from logic to live. remember to set the buffer size in soundflower to be as low as you can without breaking up in order to minimize latency. The audio is a little funky due to some experiments with compressors and audio rates. |

Since the Spark requires phantom power, I ran it from my Roland/Cakewalk VS100 mixer/USB interface in mixer mode to the Ultranova's inputs. More on that in another review. |

Today I have a pair of ASUS 25" monitors, KRK Rockit 6 monitors, Novation Remote SL37, NI Maschine, Korg NanoControl, Novation Launchpad, M-AUdio Xponent, NI Kore controller, Cakewalk VS100 audio interface and a pair of BD DJX-1 headphones on my desk. This is some of my favorite kit, but not a complete list. The Panasonic is a really good camera, but these lighting conditions kill the performance of the onboard H.264 codec.
